Recently we had to lay a family friend to rest and it got me to thinking how he ,and i would have liked this played at his and my demise. Slightly morbid i know but what would your fav recording of this song be?

Ian - good to see you around.

One of my most enduring concert going memories is the Brokedown Palace the Dead performed as an encore at the end of a four-night run at the Rainbow Theatre in London in 1981.


I thought then, and I think now, that it was just the perfect way to bring the residency to a close. It was one of these moments, and I know I'm not alone in feeling this, when the band seem to be playing just for you. It was like a benediction. I listened to it again just now before posting this and its power to move me is still strong - Garcia's mis-start just makes it more special. Truly magical.
